The reason for releasing Acrobat 9 Pro Extended instead of a newer version like Acrobat X Pro Extended could be due to various factors. It could be because of compatibility issues with Windows 7, or it might be a strategic decision by Adobe to provide continued support for the older version. The specific reasons for this choice would need to be provided by Adobe themselves.

If you have problems opening online PDFs, try downloading the file to your computer using Save as then use Adobe Acrobat to open them. If the computer does not recognize PDF files, right click the saved file and then use Open With and select Adobe Acrobat from the list and the file should open normally.

In order to fix the issues, remove the software from your computer (Control Panel > Uninstall a program), run CCleaner or Glary Utilities to make sure that there are no leftover registry keys in your system and install it again. If it doesn't help, navigate to the official web page and download and install the latest updates.
